Best Songs of Kishore Kumar - A list

Based on a list created by renowned film music historian Nalin Shah for 'Playback and Fast Forward' magazine (November, 1987) in memory of  Kishore Kumar who had passed away only a month ago. [retrieved via archive.org]

The songs are in order of year.

What's wonderful about this list (filled with some rare, obscure and not oft heard tracks) is that one gets to hear the voice of Kishore Kumar as it evolved - coming out of an early 'KL Sehgal - Talat Mahmood' influence and matured into that signature Kishore Kumar sound that we all know ( and that FM stations often play in their retro mood.)

  1. "Kashti ka khamosh safar hai" & "Tum bin jaaoon kahan" are, for me, the most incredibly, insanely & wonderfully romantic songs *EVER*! Another favourite (not in this list) is "samaa hai suhana suhana" from the 1970 film Ghar Ghar Ki Kahani.
    Great list, V.

  2. Tum bin jaaoon kahan: Lip-sync by Bharat Bhushan (he was a genius at it ...remember his act in Zindagi bhar nahin bhoolegi woh barsaat ki raat)
Samaa hai suhana suhana: Lip-sync by Jalal agha

These offered hope to lot of people :)

  3. Great list! I've gotta add that every tune from "Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi" is, for me, quintessentially Kishore Kumar. His sense of humour was second to none :-)
